Stephen King's 'The Shining', was inspired by what historical hotel?

The Stanley Hotel is a 140 room Colonial Revival Hotel. Approximately five miles from the entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park, the Stanley Hotel offers a panoramic view of Lake Estes, The Rockies and Long's Peak. It was built by Oscar Stanley and opened on July 4, 1909. The hotel and its surrounding structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Stanley Hotel also hosted the horror novelist, Stephen King and served as an inspiration for his 1977 bestseller, 'The Shining'.

Today it includes a restaurant, spa and bed-and-breakfast and provides tours which feature the history and alleged paranormal activity of the site.

I have stayed at the Stanley a few times over the years. Five star hotel in Estes Park, Colorado that is well worth staying at.

Saw The Shining while babysitting at 16 years old. To this day, I still get terrified if I see just a frame of it.

fdeisner, I know you’re kidding, but Hotel California came out in early December 1976, whereas The Shining was published January 28? 1077. It would have been an astounding feat to churn out a novel like that in a month and a half.

Worst. Movie. EVER! Terrible casting with Jack Nicholson and "Olive Oyl". The Stephen King remake for TV was MUCH better! Danny didn't have the "wiggly finger" thing when speaking with "Tony". It went by the book so much better than that Kubrick farce.
