The American Pop rock band The Bangles formed in 1981, when singer Susanna Hoffs joined forces with Vicki and Debbi Peterson, later inviting Annette Zilinskas to join as a bass player. Throughout the 1980s, they released several hit songs, including 'Walk Like an Egyptian', 'Manic Monday', and 'Eternal Flame'.

Before settling on the name 'The Bangles', the group experimented with a few other options. They started performing in Los Angeles bars under the name 'The Colours', but wanted something to better reflect their rock-influenced music. They decided on 'The Bangs' before discovering a group already existed with that name. Rather than go back to the drawing board, they altered their name to 'The Bangles'.

The Bangles continued performing together until 1989 and won many awards. These included the Brit Awards (1987), the American Video Awards (1987), and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Pop Music Award (1990).

In 1989, Susanna Hoffs decided to pursue a solo career. She released her first solo album, 'When You're a Boy', in 1991, which included the Billboard Top 40 single 'My Side of the Bed'.

The band reformed in 1999 to record a song for the soundtrack of the film 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me'. They have since continued to perform together, winning the She Rocks Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2015.
