Thalia Menninger was Dobie's dream girl on the U.S. series "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". Who played Thalia?
"The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" is a U.S. sitcom that aired on CBS from September 1959, to June 1963. Tuesday Weld performed as Thalia Menninger in season 1. She is a beautiful high school classmate of Dobie's who is only willing to date Dobie when he has money to spend on her. Thalia left the show after the first season. She was succeeded by a long stream of women for whom Dobie hankered. Thalia Menninger returned for two guest appearances as a wiser and less greedy Thalia in season 3 and 4.
During the series, the handsome clean-cut teenager Dobie Gillis (Dwayne Hickman) had a girl Zelda Gilroy, portrayed by actress Sheila Kuehl (known by the stage name of "Sheila James") who was smitten with him. As a teenage girl and later young adult woman, Zelda was bright in academics, athletic, and somewhat plain in her outward appearance. Notwithstanding Zelda efforts and feelings, Dobie had his romantic sights on beautiful girls, such as Thalia Menninger. The ladies that Dobie lusted after mostly shunned him for various reasons. Zelda was always there to help, support, and care for Dobie and his best friend Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver).
Although there was a numerous group of young girls on the show "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" in the end, Dobie could only dream of having a full and happy life with Thalia. They never would become a couple in any kind of way. Dobie couldn't find a permanent (lifelong) love interest.
