"The Plot Against America" is an American alternate history drama television miniseries created and written by David Simon and Ed Burns, based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Philip Roth, that aired on Home Box Office (HBO) from March 16, 2020, to April 20, 2020.

"The Plot Against America" imagines "an alternate American history told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in Newark, New Jersey, as they watch the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, an aviator-hero and xenophobic populist, who becomes president and turns the nation toward fascism".

Philip Milton Roth (March 19, 1933 – May 22, 2018) was an American novelist and short story writer.

Roth's fiction (often set in his birthplace of Newark, New Jersey) is known for its intensely autobiographical character, for philosophically and formally blurring the distinction between reality and fiction, for its "sensual, ingenious style" and for its provocative explorations of American identity. He first gained attention with the 1959 novella "Goodbye, Columbus"; the collection so titled received the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction.
