First broadcast on January 25, 2017, the Canadian crime drama TV series on CTV called ’Cardinal’, was adapted from the novels of Canadian crime writer Giles Blunt (born 1952). In addition to being a novelist and screen writer, he is a poet.

He was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada across the straits from the metropolitan city of Detroit, Michigan in the U.S.

The series focuses on police detective John Cardinal played by Billy Campbell (born 1959) an American film and TV actor, and his partner Lise Delorme, played by Karine Vanasse (born 1983), a Canadian actress.

The TV series lasted for 4 seasons offering the TV viewers 24 episodes, each lasting 40 minutes.

The six episodes of the first season, followed the plot adapted from Cardinal’s first novel ‘Forty Words for Sorrow’ (2000), focusing on the investigation of the murder of a young girl.

The second season adapts Blunt’s third novel titled ‘Blackfly Season’.

The third season adapted his novels ‘By the Time You Read This’ and ‘Crime Machine’, his fourth and fifth novels of the series.

The fourth season adapted his sixth novel, ‘Until the Night.’

Blunt’s additional TV credits include episodes of ‘Law & Order’, ‘Street Legal’, and ‘Night Heat’.

In June 2014, Blunt received the honorary degree of Doctor of Education from Nipissing Univeristy, a public university located in North Bay, Ontario where Blunt grew up after moving from his birthplace of Windsor.
