The spacecraft was built and launched by the Soviet Union in order to explore the surface of Venus. The spacecraft was launched on the 16th of November, 1965. The mission of Venera 3 was to land on the Venusian surface but its communications system failed before the spacecraft reached its destination. The probe possibly crushed on planet's surface in 1966. It was the first spacecraft to impact the surface of another planet.

There doesn't seem to be much question where Venera 3 is. Every site says it crash landed on the surface of Venus. It was transmitting until the "point of no return".

It really doesnt say how close it got before communications failed but if it got close enough and got crushed, even broken and crush it still could have reached the planet.

acid.The Russians though it was a paradise like Carson of Venus found when he
went there, boy were they suprised.
They expected to be met by Carson Napier and his princess Duare but instead
