"Nightmare Alley" is considered a neo-noir psychological thriller film where "The Great Stanton" is known as a scheming con artist. It is a film that has been directed by Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay by del Toro and Kim Morgan, based on the 1946 novel "Nightmare Alley" by William Lindsay Gresham, being the second feature film adaptation of Gresham's novel, following the 1947 version. Bradley Cooper stars as Stanton "Stan" Carlisle, a charming and ambitious carnival worker with a mysterious past who takes big risks to boost his career. In this latest film version, which is set in 1940s New York, a down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Cooper) endears himself to a clairvoyant and her mentalist husband at a traveling carnival. Using newly acquired knowledge, Carlisle crafts a golden ticket to success by swindling the elite and wealthy. Hoping for a big score, he soon hatches a scheme to con a dangerous tycoon with help from a mysterious psychiatrist who might be the most formidable opponent Stanton has ever met.

"Nightmare Alley" received generally positive reviews from movie critics and fans. It however flopped at the box office, grossing $23 million worldwide against a total production budget of $60 million US dollars.
