The Italian Serie A soccer giants, Juventus, adopted the black and white kit of which English team?

Notts County, based in the city of Nottingham in the English midlands, play in the fifth tier of English soccer and have recently fallen on hard times. But this struggling side are inextricably connected to one of European soccer's giants, Turin-based Juventus.

Notts County were one of the founder members of the English football league in 1882, with their history dating back twenty years further than that.

We must go back to 1903, when Juventus played in pink! As it happened, they had an English team member, John Savage, who asked a friend back home, who lived in Nottingham, for a suggestion. Not surprisingly, he proposed his own favourite team's black and white striped kit.

There is an interesting postscript to this story. When Juventus opened their new stadium in 2011, who did they ask to be the opposition? Not Inter Milan or AC Roma - but humble little Notts County. They acquitted themselves honourably, earning a one all draw. Notts County player Lee Hughes will always have the distinction of being the first player to score there.
