The nickname "Big Tuna" became linked to the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Parcells (b. August 1941). Duane Charles "Bill" Parcells was an American former football coach who was a head coach in the NFL for 19 seasons. He rose to prominence as the head coach of the New York Giants, which he led to two Super Bowl titles.

Parcells was born in Englewood, New Jersey. As an adult throughout his football career, he coached teams that were in a period of decline and turned them into postseason contenders. His first head coaching job came with the New York Giants (1983–1990). He made this team a big winner. His regular season career record was 77 wins, 49 loses, and 1 tie.

Parcells would become the only head coach in NFL history to lead 4 different teams (New York Giants, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys) to the playoffs and 3 teams (Giants, Patriots, and Jets) to one or more conference championship game-winning performances.

In 2013, Parcells was inducted into the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame and is one of just 24 coaches in NFL history to receive that distinction. With an overall regular season record of 172-130-1, he ranked 10th in career wins when he retired for good from the Dallas Cowboys in 2006.
