Just Room Enough Island is known for being the smallest inhabited island: its area is about 310 square metres (3,300 square feet). It has a house, a tree, shrubs, and a small beach.

It is part of the Thousand Islands, a North American archipelago of 1,864 islands, straddling the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 80 km (50 miles) downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario and the US islands in the state of New York. The islands range in size from over 100 square kilometres (40 square miles) to small islands, such as Just Room Enough Island, and uninhabited outcroppings of rocks. The Thousand Islands region is bisected by the Canada–United States border and covers portions of Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties in the US state of New York, in addition to parts of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and Frontenac County in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Just Room Enough Island lies between Heart Island and Imperial Isle and is on the US side of the border in New York State. It was bought by the Sizeland family in the 1950s, who wanted a holiday getaway and built the house there. Because of the island's small size, in 2010, the "Washington Post" stated, "One misstep and you're swimming".
