Ernst Stavro Blofeld is was created by Ian Fleming. An evil genius with aspirations of world domination, he is the archenemy of the British Secret Service agent James Bond. Blofeld is head of the global criminal organisation SPECTRE and is commonly referred to as Number 1, an official numerical position given to members of SPECTRE. But where did the character's name came from?

Fleming went to school with the father of the cricket commentator (and very nice guy) Henry Blofeld, who often broadcasts on the BBC. As he has explained in several interviews, when looking for a sinister supervillain Fleming could not resist using the name of Henry's father.
