The surrealist painter Salvador Dali is known for his unusual paintings and outlandish behaivior. There is also a little known fact that also makes him a bit unusual.

Dali's family was from Catalonia Spain. Before Salvador was born , Dalí's older brother, (born in 1901), had died of gastroenteritis in August of 1903. This was only nine months before the birth of the famous painter.

Dali's parents were so devastated by the death of their elder son that they believed the deceased son had been reincarnated as 'Dali'. Dali was Then named after his deceased brother Salvador. Thus, Salvador Dali inherited his name from his father (Lou Salvador) as well as his dead sibling (Salvador Dali).
