What breed of dog is native and commonly found in the Philippines?

Question asked about "What breed of dog . ." and then states in the explanation "Not recognized as a breed" so it's NOT a breed!

Knew it wasn't the other three, but have never heard of this breed of dog. However reading the information supplied I realised it is not even a proper dog breed, it is a stray mongrel, so this is a very poorly worded question - disliked and reported.

If there are people who are willing to put the work in, it sounds like the aspin could be a recognized breed. If it is true that these dogs are similar and have recognizable characteristics, they could conceivably, over time, become a specific breed. Established breeds were all moulded into having traits that people wanted to develop. Desired traits of two or more breeds were carefully developed to create the many different breeds that we have today. Fifty years ago there were far fewer breeds than we have around today. Today, mutt; tomorrow, aspin.

Yes, it is what it called a landrace and they are recognized scientifically as breeds. Interestingly, they are the original dogs out of which our working dogs and lap dogs were bred. It is only the modern Kennel Unions that started to classify breeds by how they are 'supposed to look' instead of function. Much to the detriment of the genetic health of our beloved canines.

A Aspin, mutt or mixed-breed dog is a dog that does not belong to one officially recognized breed and including those that are the result of intentional breeding.
