What breed of dog was Lassie?
"Lassie is a fictional female Rough Collie dog character created by Eric Knight in a short story that was later expanded to a full-length novel called Lassie Come-Home."
There are many types of Collies, but the Rough Collie (also called "Long-haired collie") is one of the most well known. It's a medium to large sized breed that was bred for the purpose of herding in Scotland, largely popularized by Lassie.

I knew the answer and I'm surprised how few people knew that Lassie was a Rough Collie and went for Border Collie instead! Border Collies are traditionally black and white, although you do get the occasional lover and white or tri-colour ones!

Clearly lots of people have no idea about dogs. Border collies are everywhere in my country, mostly black and white but they do come in other colours and in merle patterns. I have owned a bearded collie (think newer Shaggy Dog movie, it was a bearded collie) and Shelties are the mini version of the rough collies.

There was a friendly stray rough collie who wandered around the area I lived when I was young. He was a lovely boy who might have had "owners" that we got our border collie pup from (he'd been to various homes before my parents took him).

Charlie Hampton...Not necessarily...I knew "Lassie" was a "Rough Collie", 'cause I used to have a neighbour who raised them. I, also, knew that the Collie, who played "Lassie" was actually Male!
