Calvin from the cartoon 'Calvin and Hobbes' frequently creates bizarre, comical and non- traditional snowmen. At times they are just nonsensical, and at other times, they are to send a message; usually to his straight-laced father For example in one panel, his father has just returned from work and is walking up the sidewalk to the front door and he has to walk past a series of snowmen saluting him.

'Calvin and Hobbes' follows the humorous antics of the title characters: Calvin, a precocious, mischievous, and adventurous six-year-old boy; and his friend, a stuffed animal, Hobbes, a sardonic tiger.. The strip depicts Calvin's frequent flights of fancy and friendship with Hobbes. It also examines Calvin's relationships with his long-suffering parents and with his classmates, especially his neighbor Susie Derkins. To Calvin, Hobbes is real but to everyone else he's just a stuffed toy, but they know Hobbes is important to Calvin and act as if he is real.
