Despite its popularity, this line is often spoken by ‘Trekkies’(fans of the original series), but was never written into a script. The closest line to it written was “Beam us up, Scotty.”, and the phrase was turned around in the 1987 Star Trek movie ‘The Voyage Home’, where Capt. Kirk asks “Scotty, beam me up.” A few years after the show’s cancellation, a Saturday Morning animated series completed the show’s original ‘Five-year mission’, with most of the original cast voicing their characters, and all returned for the film series, six of which were released between 1979 and 1991. During all this, the never-used line became a household phrase, appearing on everything from buttons to stickers, and often followed by the joke,

“There’s no intelligent life down here!”.
