What caused the scars on the face of the singer and songwriter Seal?
The scars on his face are the result of discoid lupus erythematosus, a type of Lupus that affects the skin, resulting in the classic Lupus "butterfly rash" across the cheeks, and nose. Discoid Lupus can manifest anywhere on a persons' skin, and can lead to scarring and hair loss in some cases. Most people with discoid lupus are sun sensitive, and must take precautions to avoid sun exposure. It has been reported that Seal is currently in remission.
Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic skin condition of sores with inflammation and scarring favoring the face, ears, and scalp and at times on other body areas.

Lupus is a scary disease that effects each person a little differently, with some similar symptoms. A few friends suffer from lupus, and all three are in frequent pain. Let's hope there's a cure in the near future!

I once heard, maybe on MTV, that they were scars related to tribal rites. I'm no fan of MTV news, but Im going to research this because its interesting. And it does occur.
