What color is the ribbon for breast cancer awareness?

In 1990 people for the first time came across the notion of the "red ribbon" which is known as the symbol for AIDS awareness. Just a year or two later, the focus was shifted to the ribbon of another color – to the pink one. Soon, women all around the world became alert to the problem of breast cancer and its consequences.

This color of the ribbon reminds every woman of her nature and delicacy but also symbolizes the fear of breast cancer. Thus, if you wear the pink ribbon, you show your respect and support for the brave women who go on fighting against the disease and at the same time you help to increase awareness among women. It's highly important that every woman should have regular breast examinations in order to prevent the disease or detect it at the initial stage.

here in South Africa the men's cricket team the Proteas, always play one game in a series in pink to raise not only awareness of breast cancer but to raise funds and the vast majority of the spectators also wear pink

Breast cancer effects men as well as women. Although rare, it often goes undiagnosed with serious consequences.

If they would put a blue border around that pink ribbon I would gladly wear one every day for the rest of my life. With it just being pink a lot of people believe that only women can get breast cancer. While it is rare, men can get it also which is why I would love to see that blue border. I support breast cancer awareness in both men and women.

Bewley Steve, So women are trying to be 'special' because they have enough confidence in themselves to draw attention to a problem disease that you don't happen to have? I've known the color for prostate cancer for some time now. If others don't have this information, why don't you broadcast it to everyone?

Breast cancer in woman was largely considered a woman's disease. Ignored. When it became known that men could get breast cancer, too, then it became a world wide issue.

Each year in January, the Sydney test match (ie cricket) raises money for breast care nurses across Australia. It is a spectacular 5 day event. This year's test was against Ian Swindale's South Africa side. Regardless of the test's result, the winner each year is the McGrath Foundation.

Barbara Ell, that's absolutely correct. I used to work in oncology and we had a few male patients. It's rather rare, but certainly possible.

Emm Yo, My mum was healthy and got breast cancer out of nowhere at 78 and passed away Also my sister was healthy at 42 Best to be safe and catch it early! Better safe than sorry! I have been going to family history breast screen for 16 years since my mum passed and I didn't get any cancer cells activating!! No scientific evidence to back up your worries.

Yes I lost my older sister when she was 42 and my mum at 78 when I was 38 Hopefully they find a cure in the future! Me and my other older sister had to go to a family history clinic for over ten years! Now this year I am allowed to just go wherever as turned 53 Strange because my mum didn't even get it until 78! They both had a very aggressive form and only lasted 18 months after diagnosis! So my daughter will have to go through the same screening in 3 years when she turns 28. So hopefully science will find a cure before then!
