The Independence Day in Cyprus is a great holiday that appeals to every citizen of the country.

During its whole history, Cyprus was occupied by various countries and empires. The main reason for it was a very good location of the island amid the Mediterranean Sea. At the end of 16th century, it was occupied by the Ottoman Empire and in the 19th century it was placed under British administration and then officially annexed by it in 1904.

After national liberation struggle that lasted many years, Cyprus finally gained independence in 1960 and became a sovereign state.

The question asks "celebrates" not "gained". Cyprss AND Nigeria both celebrate it on this day.

It's, actually, three countries celebrates independence day: Cyprus - October 1, 1960, Independence from the United Kingdom on August 16, 1960, but Cyprus Independence Day is commonly celebrated on October 1. Nigeria - October 1, 1960, Independence from the United Kingdom in 1960. Tuvalu - October 1, 1978, Independence from the United Kingdom in 1978.

Based on the answers provided by QB, Cyprus is the correct choice. The question does not ask us, nor does it include in it's answers, which countries (plural) gained their independence on Oct 1st, but rather, which country (singular). This doesn't negate the fact that Nigeria also gained it's independence on Oct 1st. Just another subpar question from the writers of Quizclub.
