Birr Castle is a remarkable place in many aspects. It's obvious that first of all, the castle is of great historical value, but mostly it's famous for the marvel of the 19^th century science – "The Great Telescope".

Since 1990, tourists may enjoy the sight of its reconstruction.

Picture gave it away for me. I've always had an interest in astronomy and known this as the 'Rosse Telescope'. Pity that the narrative didn't give us all more information on it. After all, it was, until 1917, the largest reflecting telescope in the world.
