Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was named for his father's distant cousin, Francis Scott Key, the author of the lyric to "The Star Spangled Banner." Fitzgerald grew up in Minnesota and penned numerous short stories in prestigious magazines as well as five novels. Fitzgerald died in California at the age of only 44 in 1940.

This might be interesting: "The Great Gatsby" was the most popular novel by this author. Historians consider the novel to be loosely based on the writer's life and his complicated relationship with his wife Zelda.
