What direction does the Earth rotate?

Have you ever wondered why the Moon and the Sun always rise from the east? It is such a common thing – just like the spinning of the Earth. Everybody remembers that our planet is constantly spinning, but very few people know that it is always spinning towards the east.

It is an interesting fact that the speed changes in different areas of our planet and it is actually different for people at the equator as well as for people who live in the state of Arizona. At the equator you will be moving at a speed of ~1,500 km per hour, while in Arizona it will be about 1,400 km per hour. In Alaska the speed will be even lower (~900 km per hour).
