Does everyone remember the school days when the teacher explained polynomials? Well, the term "poly" came back again. The term "poly" means several, or many and "andry" means "man". So for the sake of the question, the polyandric women are the ones who try to build their life around more than one man at once. Polyandric marriages can be brotherly and exogamic. In the first case several brothers marry one woman and in the latter case husbands are not relatives.

Perhaps you will be shocked, but there are some places on our planet where polyandry is quite a usual and legal thing even nowadays, for example in some districts of South India, Nepal and Tibet. Such type of marriages is also widespread among some South American tribes, the Inuits and Evenks.

A similar term exists for males. Those males are called polygamic who try to have more than one woman/wife.

There are many more "poly" terms which cover different relationship scenarios with a different number of males and females, and they all have the "poly" in it.
