What do the abbreviations LED stand for in relation to the electronic device used in domestic appliances?

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor light source. It is a p–n junction diode, which emits light when activated. When a suitable voltage is applied to the leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons.

I remember this from when I worked with brokers getting things through U.S. Customs. And if not a good explanation of what was in a shipment, we had to notify the origin, someplace in Asia, to get said info from the shipper. Such an interesting job.

Howard Groopman the word Devise pertains to inventing/planning something. A Device is a piece of equipment.No variants to spelling - just different words with different meanings.
