But it is a medical tool, a tongue depressor. It's clear that it's used to depress the tongue for the examination of the mouth and throat. Most modern tongue depressors are thin, flat, wooden blades, which are smoothed and rounded at both ends. Still there have been a lot of varieties of tongue depressors in history. But wooden tongue depressors are quite convenient in use: they are cheap, which makes each depressor approachable to be used only once and then be disposed.
