BMW AG is a German automobile and motorcycle company, so it makes sense that the initials BMW come from German words. BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke. AG stands for Aktiengesellschaft, which basically means that it is a Corporation with stocks and shareholders.

Anyway, if you translate Bayerische Motoren Werke into English, it would be Bavarian Motor Works.
