What does the "IoT" acronym translate into in relation to the World Wide Web?
The term "Internet of things" (better known as "IoT") was coined by Kevin Ashton, British technology pioneer, and co-founder of Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Auto-ID Center, in 1999, though he prefers the phrase "Internet for things". At that point, he viewed radio-frequency identification (RFID) as essential to the "Internet of things", which allows computers to manage all kinds of individual things.
These individual things (e.g., smartphones, TVs, automobiles, smart toasters, and, even, fitness collars for dogs, etc) that connect to the web are, simply, "IoT".
