Murray plays Bob Wiley, an irritating patient who follows his egotistical psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin (Dreyfuss) on his family vacation. Bob is an exemplar of neediness with a compendium of phobias. When the unstable Bob befriends members of Marvin's family, it pushes the doctor over the edge. Bob is truly an oblivious patient; he feels very comfortable in any and all personal situations with Marvin's family members. Dr. Marvin will lose his professional temperament and composure because of Bob's behavior. Before long, the doctor is really ready to go to the loony bin.
