What health hazard caused the Bushwood Country Club pool to be emptied and cleaned in the movie "Caddyshack"?
When a swimmer using goggles to spy on girls underwater looks up, he screams, "DOODY" because floating in front of him was a Baby Ruth candy bar someone had thrown into the pool as a joke. Soon the pool was empty and being scrubbed down by Carl the assistant groundskeeper (Bill Murray). He sees the chocolate bar laying by the drain, picks it up and says, "It looks O.K." and takes a bite as watchers scream.
There are dozens of hilarious scenes in the movie "Caddyshack," which starred Chevy Chase, Ted Knight, Michael O'Keefe, and introduced Rodney Dangerfield.
The film was rated "R" for language, implied drug use, nudity, and raunchy humor. Bill Murray was only on the set for filming 6 days, and none of his scenes were scripted, but he stole every scene.
Caddyshack was Harold Ramis's directorial debut and boosted the career of Dangerfield, who was previously known mostly for his stand-up comedy. Grossing nearly $40 million at the domestic box office (the 17th-highest of the year), it was the first of a series of similar comedies. A sequel, Caddyshack II (1988), followed, although only Chase reprised his role and the film was poorly received.
