What historical event happened on 20 July, 1969?
The U.S. Apollo 11 space mission landed the first men on the moon July 20, 1969. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon while Michael Collins stayed in the command module orbiting the moon. The whole world was able to watch the broadcast of the historical event. Armstrong was the first to set foot on the surface and he uttered the now famous words ( One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind). The team spent a total of 21.5 hours on the moon's surface before returning to the command module. Apollo 11 landed back on earth in the Pacific Ocean on July 24.
The Woodstock festival took place in August of 1969. Both Robert Kennedy and Dr Martin Luther King were killed in 1968 not 1969.
