What is a perfect number?

I didn't even understand the question as I wouldn't have a clue what a perfect number is and the given answer might as well have been written in Swahili. Obviously I got the wrong answer!!

of course, 496 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 31 + 62 + 124 + 248 then the next one is 8128 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 + 127 + 254 + 508 + 1016 + 2032 + 4064...whats the next one?????? only for the mathematicians in the house.......hehehehhehe

In my opinion the perfect number would be on a check with the most amount of zeros following it. 💲 😄

Ian Swindale, the explanation was crap. Divisors are factors . You can put numbers into rectangular arrays of dots and the divisors are the length and breadth of the rectangles 1x28 2x14 4x7 This identifies all the factors or divisors, if your country prefers that word , the sum of the factors means add them up except for the number itself! 1+2+4+7 +14=28 wow that's the number I started with Cool perfect! Usually doesn't happen E.g. 12 1x12 2x6 3x4 Sum of factors is 1+2+3+4+6=16 So sum of factors exceeds the number I started with So 12 isn't perfect it's abundant because the sum of the factors ( divisors) exceeds the number . A prime number has a paucity of factors E.g. 13 1 x13 is the only way you can do it apart from 13×1 So apart from the number of set there is only one factor and it is one
