Rhode Island Red is a heavy breed of chicken, raised in America. This breed is supposed to be the best among all the other breeds of domestic birds. Rode Island Reds are known as one of the so called "dual-purpose" breeds: they lay the best and biggest eggs and their meat is nourishing.

However, nowadays more and more farmers say that RIR ability to lay good eggs is the only trait left from the other selected, while birds themselves become skinnier and not meaty enough for designating the breed as of dual-purpose nature.
