What is a threnody?

Threnody is a poem, speech, literary work, song or musical composition of lamentation, a dirge or funeral song to honor or commemorate those no longer living.

An example of threnody used in a sentence:

The composer's cello concerto was composed as a moving threnody for his dearly departed wife of 20 years.

Brand new word to me but one I won't forget, every day is a school day.

Like "psalmody" (singing to a harp) which I first heard in church as a young teenager, and thought the person was talking about the "samedi committee" rather than the "psalmody committee". Couldn't understand, as church services were on Sunday, not Saturday!
