Baby whales are known as calves. Different types of whales tend to give birth to their children at different time of a year. Some of them, for example, blue whales, have children in the winter, while orcas do it in the fall or spring. Gestation also varies from one whale species to another. With orcas it lasts around 17 months, with humpbacks 12 and with blues 11. Usually all whales give birth to single calves. Several cases of twin birth have also been observed, which is very rare.
