What is depicted in this photo?
The Unisphere is one of the most iconic, well-known and enduring symbols of New York. It is located in the borough of Queens. It's a steel 120 feet tall representation of our planet. Originally it was the symbol of the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair, designed and constructed in honor of the beginning of the space age on Earth. It was dedicated to "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe".

We were at the world's fair in 1965 and went a couple of days. I remember being impressed by this both days. I was only 9 years old.

I was 10 and 11 when the World's Fair was in New york. I lived on Long Island and my family went approximately 10 times to the fair. I went another time with a summer day camp. That's it was crowded we had the buddy system so two people would be together all the time. There was an odd number of campers in all group and I ended up being the Buddy of the counselor. We will walk around outside and there was a Indy car that we were all looking at. When I looked up I noticed I couldn't see any of my campmates or counselor. I waited about 10 minutes hoping they would come back but they did not show up so I walked over to one of the fair security people and let them know I got separated from my group. They took me to a place where they kept children that had been separated from their parents or group but it was totally filled up. They had a second location where they kept the kids but it was all the way on the other side of the fair. I guess when the counselor noticed I was missing he let the director of the camp, who is there with some of the other higher officials, know that I was missing. By the time I was located it was dark out and all the people from our camp got back on the buses and went home. I ended up being taken home by the director and his wife. My mother also told me that our family dog, a Cocker Spaniel and Wirehaired terrier mix, was pacing back and forth and was whimpering. She thinks he had a sixth sense and knew something was wrong. When I got home I bent over to pet him and as I did he was so happy to see me he jumped up. His had hit me directly in my eye socket and gave me a black eye. That's the day I think I'll remember forever. 😁

Went 5 times. Best World"s Fair ever! Youngins might recognize the USS's Unisphere from MIB. Lousy restaurant on top. Try the Space Needle in Seattle. New chef, better view & cheaper!

I visited America and New York for the first time in 1965. I was 18 and worked myself over from Norway on a passenger ship. The three most memorable experiences were the first time seing the Statue of Liberty sailing in, the World Fair with the unisphere and a concert with Frank Sinatra int the Forest Hill tennis stadium. Amazing days.
