What is France also known as?

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose territory consists of metropolitan France in Western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. France is a unitary semi-presidential republic with its capital in Paris, the country's largest city and main cultural and commercial center.

With the exception of the northeast, most of France's land borders are roughly delineated by natural boundaries and geographic features: to the south and southeast, the Pyrenees and the Alps and the Jura, respectively, and to the east, the Rhine river. Due to its shape, France is often referred to as "l'Hexagone" ("The Hexagon").
