Shinto is not only the major ancient religion in the land of the rising sun, it is also regarded as a national one. By the way, Shinto means “Gods’ way”.

Being a very ancient one, this religion comprises various beliefs and cults typical of pagan society such as animalism, totemism, fetishism and so on. You may be surprised to know, but only at the beginning of the 6th century, the Japanese got acquainted with Buddhism and Confucianism. As a result, all these three religions interacted and borrowed a lot from each other.
