What is known as a mountain chicken?
Commonly known as the mountain chicken or the Giant ditch frog is native to the Caribbean islands of Dominica and Montserrat. It is critically endangered species of frog due to it being hunted for human consumption because of its meaty legs and yes it does resemble the taste of chicken.
They have a relatively small brood of eggs when laying and therefore limiting its recovery.
The biggest threat to the mountain chicken is the fungal disease that is deadly. In 2019, the species was regarded as functionally extinct on Montserrat.
