An ectomycorrhiza (from Greek ἐκτός ektos, "outside", μύκης mykes, "fungus", and ῥίζα rhiza, "root") is a form of symbiotic relationship that occurs between a fungal symbiont, or mycobiont, and the roots of various plant species.
Ectomycorrhizas form on the roots of around 2% of plant species, usually woody plants, including species from the birch, dipterocarp, myrtle, beech, willow, pine, Douglas fir and rose families. Research on ectomycorrhizas is increasingly important in areas such as ecosystem management and restoration, forestry and agriculture.

Another question where two answers are correct. Endomycorrhizae are one type of mycorrhizae. Ectomycorrhizae are another. Would be nice if the questions and answers were edited for accuracy before being posted. Relates to how the fungus interacts within or outside of the root cells of the plant.

Really only one answer is definitely wrong so since the echo and endorsed versions are different forms of mycorrhizae this should have been the “correct” answer. One of worst questions I’ve ever seen on quiz club and should be reworked or removed.
