What is the annual salary (2015) of the President of the US?
Since 2001, the president has earned a $400,000 (taxable) annual salary, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a $100,000 non-taxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment. The US president received a raise in 2001 last time, when it rose from $200,000 to $400,000. It was approved by Bill Clinton and the Congress in 1999.
By the way, the first US president George Washington earned $25,000 a year. The annual salary of the president was increased 5 times since the first raise in 1873.

Once you've become a millionaire or billionaire, there are other things beyond money to make someone want the job. Money is not the only carrot dangled. There are power and status to be gained. Ego is an important consideration. And if we are lucky, service to country, altruism, and the desire to make the lives of all Americans better come into play. Money is not the only incentive in the world!

If you want to get technical the president actually gets 579,000 when adding in all the perks that are not taxable plus one perk none of us want is all the grey hair and the stress that goes with the job

William, his being black is 75% of the hate from the right. They started it before he was even inaugurated. Pretty obvious. Republicans would love a constitutional amendment that mandates the president can only be a white christian male.

You are obviously a conservative. What's the matter? Don't you think the leader of the free world and the person who holds the highest political position, in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, deserves such a salary? It's nothing compared to the multi-million-dollar salaries many CEOs bring home for simply running a business, without a quarter of the responsibility the President has. Get real. Your outrage is disingenuous and misplaced.

Adam Kennedy Save your pity for someone who needs it. I can see very clearly. You say, "Nothing else needs to be SAID." only because YOU don't want to HEAR the truth.
The dismal state of race relations in this country cannot be blamed on President Obama. What you see is the re-emergence of an underlying racism that has always been with us. The fact that a black man sits in the Oval Office only served to anger bigots and like children, they had a tantrum. Those children who were in our Congress vowed to obstruct anything he tried to do for this country, regardless of its worth.
The fact that our debt keeps rising can also be laid at the feet of Congress. Giving tax breaks to the wealthiest, allowing corporations to ship jobs out of the country and hide taxable profits offshore, and by subsidizing some of the most profitable corporations in the country doesn't help either. Congress and especially the right wing can again be blamed. The war debt created by Obama's predecessor, a Republican, has been reduced by 2/3. Millions more now have medical coverage and equality for women, gays, and minorities is making progress. If anything, this president has restored dignity, concern, intelligence, and class to the White House. Unemployment is at a 30 year low. The economy is doing very well, but the middle class doesn't feel it and we can thank the conservatives in Congress for that, thanks to their tax strategy.
I won't say I feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for the country as a whole that so many like you are so blind to what is really happening in this country.
I challenge you to enumerate the things you say Obama has "done to this country " that have caused you such outrage. Facts matter and any outrage on your part simply because he is black doesn’t count!

Amazing that George Dumbya, the worst president ever, got the raise. He lied us into war, ignored Osama bin Laden, and cratered the great Clinton economy. I won't even get into him stealing the 2000 election with the help of his brother's cohorts in Florida.

Actually it is $400,000 as stated in the answer. The $400K is his taxable base salary. Expense accounts and perks don't count as salary. The question asks what his SALARY is; nothing more.

Could you imagine $25,000 in the day of George Washington. That's right at $475 a week. Some people would consider that a decent wage today!!! That would be at least $25,000,000 in today's money!!!!!!!!!

I can only assume you are referring to George W Bush as "that last one", since President Obama is the present one.
Whether you like our President when he serves, or how well you think he does his job, the salary of our President isn't high enough. With all the responsibility the office requires, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, his salary is meager compared to what many CEOs, actors, and athletes make annually. $400,000 annually is a mere pittance, far out of scale with his responsibility.

Bewley Steve, actually, the military personnel are paid by rank (pay grade) that is made by what is called "time in service." Also, there are rates (jobs) that carry what's called a "re-enlistment bonus" at the time a military member decides to extend their time in the military.

Diane Johnson, actually, the President of the United States annual salary is $400,000.00 The other expenses come off the taxes paid by the American people for his other ventures he's involved in during his term in office.

The president's salary was never $250,000. Bill Clinton signed the bill raising the salary from $200,000 to $400,000 before leaving office. Congress approved it in 1999. He did not benefit from that signing. George W Bush was the first president to receive the raise.
I don't believe $400.000 is enough!

Personal hobbies and expenses incurred for said hobbies are his own. The taxpayer does not foot the bill for any of this. Since you are so uninformed, I will not even ask why you have such a dim opinion of our President.

With the weight of the world on his shoulders, do you actually think $400,000 is too much to pay the leader of the free world?
To put it into perspective, CEOs all over the country make hundreds of millions annually doing far less, yet I never hear any outrage over that! Movie stars and professional athletes make $10 million or more for a few months work, nobody says a word, but a paltry $400,000 to someone who leads the nation, makes decisions that affect us all, and makes life and death decisions about war gets objections?
Bill Clinton signed the bill raising the salary before leaving office. He did not benefit from that signing. George W Bush was the first president to receive the raise.
Personally, I don't believe $400.000 is enough!

You call our president a phony. Can you give us one real, verifiable reason why you feel that way? Was it the Affordable Care Act he had passed giving health care to millions more Americans? Was it the fact that he rid the world of Osama bin Laden or Gaddafi? Was it his Nobel Peace Prize? Was it the fact that he has reduced the deficit created by Bush by well over two thirds? Perhaps it was the class, sophistication, and newly found global respect he brought back to the White House after Bush? I challenge you to enlighten us. And please, his race or political party should not be a factor. Specifics matter and links to verifiable information would certainly strengthen your opinion.
