What is the breed of this dog?

The English Bulldog or British Bulldog is a medium-sized dog breed. It is a muscular, hefty dog with a wrinkled face and a distinctive pushed-in nose. The designation "bull" was applied because of the dog's use in the sport of bull-baiting. This entailed the setting of dogs (after placing wagers on each dog) onto a tethered bull. The dog that grabbed the bull by the nose and pinned it to the ground would be the victor.

The English bulldog has a sweet, gentle disposition. Dependable and predictable, this bulldog is a wonderful family pet and loving to most children. though they generally get along well with other family pets, English bulldogs can be aggressive to unfamiliar dogs. Though they don't bark much, they are far from silent. Because of their deformed face, they go through life snorting, snuffling, wheezing, grunting, and snoring loudly. Some people find these sounds nerve-wracking; others find them endearing.

I will never understand why people spend so much money on a dog, there are plenty of dogs in the shelters that need a home. Many are purebred too, I got my beagle and my pom from shelters, I have also gotten mixed breeds. I have fostered 14 dogs to date, every type and size, they were all just wanting some love.

I had a cat that was too scared to go outside. One day it worked up the courage to look out the storm door. Just as she raised her head over the ledge, there was my neighbors English Bulldog just a few inches away looking at her through the window. Kitty went ballistic and ran away hissing. The Bulldog's name was Sweetpea and she loved cats. She was a daily visitor to our home and one of the most gentle dogs I've ever met.

Merri Sillery, I agree. Also this silly game of crossbreeds being given fancy names like Schitzpoo or jackapoo when basically they are mongrels that cost a lot of money. Some people have more money than sense

Merri Sillery, I'm allergic to dogs but would rather have one that was looking for a forever home that something costing £1k+. The same goes for cats as well they cost a fortune but many fancy breeds (Scottish Folds and dwarf breeds) can have long term health problems.

Merri Sillery, I TOTALLY agree. If you can afford to pay $1000.+ just for a pet, you have more money than brains, I believe. I can't justify it for myself. We can't have dogs where we currently live, but the last dog I had was a golden lab/collie cross. He was beautiful, and such a sweet personality. So much fun. He was definitely not a pure bred, but I didn't care. I'm not usually a dog person, but Copper was MY baby.

Howard Groopman, Frenchie are not the breed i like. My dogs has been attacked more than Five times by such. My dogs has always been gentle so nothing went real bad, but if it had been an angry dog those Frenchies hade not lived long. The owners are so bad.

Lynda Flanger, then you don't know how the English Bulldogg should look. It isn't like the bad ones that dies att 6 years age by a stroke sitting in a chait. Or a heart attack. I had a neighbor that had the breed. They told me a lot about all the diseases and illnesses that breed had.

Irene Townsend, that is a real English Bulldogg. Not the bad ones that you like . From the beginning they looked like the Continental Bulldogg. Then Bad "breeders" did destroy it. Now they are trying to get a better breed again.

At last the Kennal clubs in the western world are insisting that the face of this breed should be longer which will eventually help with the breathing problems - they've only got about 100 years interbreeding to back out of - pictures of Victorian bulldogs look much more natural!

Leapy Lee, You will find a Wikipedia post describing the Australian bulldog is follows: A snail of a medium-sized breed with a smaller head, longer muzzle, smaller chest, longer limbs and wider hips than English bulldog. Coloring can be brindle with white characters, red with white characters, or fawn with white characters. Its height at the withers is 40–50 cm and its weight is 25–35 kg. If you examine to photographs associated with the article you will find that the are a duplicate of the English bulldog in appearance. There's probably only a noticeable difference if you stand the two side-by-side.
