What is the capital of Vietnam?

Hanoi (meaning "the city inside rivers"), the capital of Vietnam, is a great multicultural city with centuries-old oriental architecture. Different nations and cultures have influenced the city in the course of its history: Asian, French, Chinese.

Nowadays it is the second largest city of the country. There are many wonderful little temples in the city, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus Dong Xuan market, selling household goods and street food. The city celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 2010.

Two complete tours on aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea in 1966-67 and 1967-68. Got confused with Saigon change to Ho Chi Minh. Used double chance: first choice Hanoi with backup HCM.

My 18 year old brother was brought home to us in a casket from there in 1970. He turned 18 in February and died the 23rd of June. I will always be proud of him. I joined the Air Force in his honor and served for 20 years. I will never forget or forgive the americans (meant for no capital A) that treated our brave men and women so rudely upon their return, even the deceased.

Fred Zeb Fudpucker, my take on the whole thing is that if we had honored the call for elections in 1956, Ho probably would have won and then set about rebuilding his country. But with the Cold War and McCarthyites looking for a Commie under every bed, the politicians (or maybe just the CIA anti-Coms) thought they could not abandon the corrupt Diem.
