Olympia is a city located in Thurston County, state Washington. It serves as the state capital and the county seat. Nowadays approximately 49 thousand people live in Olympia. Seattle, the largest city of the state, is located 60 miles from the state capital. While Seattle is the main transportation and manufacturing center of the state, Olympia remains a regional center of arts, such as theater, band music, painting etc. There are plenty of opportunities for the visitors to enjoy fine arts in Olympia. The state capital also has a great number of green parks and nature conservation areas. Incorporated as a city in 1859, Olympia nowadays has a lot of historic sites and buildings. Unfortunately, many of them were destroyed and damaged in the 1949 earthquake.
