What is the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States?
The coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States was a bone-chilling -80 degrees Fahrenheit (-62 deg Celsius). This was recorded on January 24, 1971 at Prospect Creek Camp, located near the Arсtic Circle along the Alaska pipeline. The record low for the lower 48 states is not a whole lot warmer at -70 deg F (-57 deg Celsius) on January 20, 1954 at Rogers Pass, Montana at an elevation of 5,470 feet in the Rocky Mountains.

People answered -20 degrees! I walked to my grade school when it was that cold. Sure, it was only a block and a half to school, but, that block was heading North and they don't call the winter wind "the Hawk" in Chicago for nothing. Back in the 80's I was out when the wind chill was reported as -84 degrees, but, since then, they have changed the formula to calculate the wind chill factor and that day would now be in -60's I believe.

Having lived in Alaska I have experienced -70 to -80 official temps.Actually had colder than -80 but it was not an official recording area.

Growing up I learned the coldest temperature (presumably the lower 48) was in Old Forge, NY. But then again, I grew up in NYS.

I've noticed Global Warming where I live. The top of the mountain had snow until May. The small stream ran all year. Not now. 40 years later.
