The "Gloriosa superba" is a species of flowering plant in the family 'Colchicaceae'. Common names include flame lily, climbing lily, creeping lily, glory lily, gloriosa lily, tiger claw, agnishikha, and fire lily. It grows in many types of habitats, including tropical jungles, forests, thickets, woodlands, grasslands, and sand dunes. It can grow in nutrient-poor soils. It can be found at as high as 2,500 m (8,200 ft) in elevation. This plant is poisonous, toxic enough to cause human and animal fatalities if ingested.

Flame lilies thrive in fertile, well-drained soil in full to partial sun. These exotic-looking lilies produce an abundance of yellow and red flowers with petals that curl backward to resemble a flash of brilliant flames. They can reach heights of 8 feet (2 m.) and require a trellis or wall to climb. Although flame lilies do not produce tendrils, the specialized leaves of the Gloriosa climbing lily cling to the trellis or other plant material to pull the vine upward.
