Created and produced by Allen Funt, Candid Camera initially began as a radio show by the name of The Candid Microphone. It first aired on June 28th, 1947 via radio, with a series of theatrical short films to follow under the same name.

Funt's comedy reality concept (which was now the infamous 'Candid Camera') came to television on August 10th, 1948 and continued into the 70's; airing 30 minute episodes . Aside from the occasional specials which appeared throughout the 80's and 90's, the show was off air during that time. The show made its official comeback on CBS in 1996. Come 2001, PAX had picked up the show, carrying it all the way through May 5th, 2004; the time in which the network itself sold. Beginning on August 11th, 2014 the series returned on TV Land where it began running hour-long episodes.

In its existence, Candid Camera has had a whopping 38 seasons that include over 1,000 episodes! Next in line, is the all too familiar reality show Cops, which began airing in 1989 and is still one of the few going strong today. It has aired a total of 28 seasons and nearly 1,000 episodes since its start.
