The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a standardized examination for prospective medical students. It is required for admission to many medical institutions for many countries, including Australia, Japan, Germany, US, and Canada. Although the MCAT is administered internationally, most UK medical schools won't accept these test results.

The MCAT is computer-based and tests a variety of knowledge, sciences, and writing skills. The MCAT is administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Prior to 2006, the exam was a paper & pencil test.

The most recent version of the exam was introduced in April 2015 and takes 7.5 hours to complete. During the same year, the AAMC added a new section called 'Psychological, Social & Biological Foundations of Behavior'. This section tests one's ability to understand sociocultural, biological and psychological influences on behavior and social interactions as well as how people process emotion and stress.

It is designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, written analysis and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles. The test is scored in a range from 472 to 528. The sections are in multiple-choice format. The passages and questions are predetermined, and thus do not change in difficulty depending on the performance of the test taker. As of 2019, It costs $315 (USD) to take the MCAT.
