What is the name of God in Islam?

God in Islam is the eternal Supreme Being who created and preserves all things. Allah is God’s most unique Name, grandly referred to as 'Lafẓ al-Jalālah' (The Word of Majesty). It occurs in the Qur’an 2,697 times in 85 of its 114 suras.

In Islam, God is conceived as absolutely one, unique, and perfect, free from all faults, deﬁciencies, and defects, and further held to be omnipotent, omniscient, and completely infinite in all of his attributes, who has no partner or equal, being the sole creator of everything in existence. Islam emphasizes that God is strictly singular, all-merciful and all-compassionate, whose mercy embraces everything; who neither slumbers nor sleeps, nor is obnoxious to decay nor death.

According to Islamic theology, God has no physical body or gender (neither male nor female), although he is always referred to with masculine grammatical articles only.

Allah is the name of God in Arabic, not Islam. It is close to other Semitic words for God such as Allaha or Elaha in Aramaic/Syriac or Elohim in Hebrew.

krkyates, God is one God in three Persons - the Father (Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim), the Son (Jesus the Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Genesis says, "The Spirit of God hovered over the waters" of the formless earth, and as you inferred, spirits do not have bodies. Later, the Father says, "Let US create Man in OUR image." "US"? Who was the Father talking to? The Son, of course! Jesus appeared several times to folks in the Old Testament before his birth in Bethlehem - to Abraham before the destruction of Sodom, to the three friends of Daniel whom King Nebuchadnezzar threw in the fiery furnace (Jesus rescues them), and again to Daniel himself to reveal "the things to come". Jesus had a body during every one of his appearances. Also - since God is omnipotent, He can also time-travel.

kevinstreets, Jehovah and Allah are simply names for God in Hebrew and Arabic respectively. It's the images and thoughts that are attached to the words that are different. The English word God does not mean the same thing to everyone who speak English. Your idea of God and my idea of God maybe completely different but the word still refers to the supreme being, creator of the universe.
