Rodrigo de Triana, whose real name was Juan Rodríguez Bermejo (born in 15th-century, in Lepe, Huelva, Spain - dead on June 24, 1526, Moluccas Islands [or in the Maghreb, Africa, no date known]), was a Spanish sailor. He was a crew member of one of Christopher Columbus' caravels on his first trip, in which the discovery of the American continent took place on October 12, 1492. According to historiography, he was the lookout that first sighted the New World.

The onboard diary of Christopher Columbus mentions that a sailor sees land at 2 a.m., later affirming that the one who first spotted land is Rodrigo de Triana from his lookout post in the caravel 'La Pinta'. This first sighting is narrated in the onboard diary of Christopher Columbus, summarized by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas. The diary jumps immediately from October 11 to 13, 1492, understanding the facts narrated as of October 12: Rodrigo spotted a small island in the Lucayas archipelago (known today as the Bahamas), in the Atlantic Ocean. The island, in particular, was known by the natives as Guanahani and was baptized by Christopher Columbus as San Salvador, in honor of Jesus Christ and the salvation involved in finding land after that long journey.

Unfortunately, history collects very few details of Rodrigo de Triana's life, only fishing here and there certain information from the chroniclers of the 15th & 16th Centuries.
