Canadian investor and collector Miles Nadal spent $850,000 on 99 of 100 pairs of the world's rarest sneakers auctioned off by Southeby's in July 2019. The prize 100th pair were the Nike "Moon Shoes" purchased for $437,500 USD (€392,481, £351,268)

The sneakers were designed by Nike co-founder and legendary University of Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman. The traction's waffle pattern was reminiscent of the footprint left by astronauts on the moon in 1969, hence the shoes name. He created the look using his household waffle maker.

Made for runners at the 1972 Olympic Trials, only about 12 pairs of the Moon Shoes were created, with even fewer still remaining today. The sneaker is the only pair known to exist in unworn condition.
